Many wonderful things are happening here at Hearts & Homes for Youth (HHY), and we are delighted to share them with you. First, of course, is our wonderful new website! We are thrilled to offer this user-friendly site to provide information on our services and programs, share success stories, recruit foster parents, introduce you to our staff, and invite you to invest in the life of a child. Please check back often to see the Calendar of Events and learn what’s new at HHY!

ANNUAL OLNEY THEATRE EVENT & SILENT AUCTION
Hearts & Homes for Youth proudly held the third Olney Theatre Event & Silent Auction on April 28, 2007 to benefit the children and youth served by HHY. Patrons, sponsors, community partners and individual supporters joined together to enjoy the bountiful buffet and decadent desserts catered by B.J. Pumpernickel’s and sample Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard’s finest wines. Paintings done in the Art Therapy Program, emotional poetry readings and an evocative a cappella song performance brought many in the room to tears and reinforced everyone’s dedication to our mission. The Silent Auction offered fabulous items for sale and the evening’s performance of “Eubie!” was a rousing success. The investments received for this event totaled over $25,000.  100% of these funds support the lives of the children and youth served by HHY.

MEAD FOUNDATION GRANT
On May 21, 2007, the Mead Family Foundation awarded Hearts & Homes for Youth a $10,000 grant to support the on-going training of HHY staff. Funding to support staff training is crucial to the success of the programs and services offered by HHY. We are very thankful to the Mead Family Foundation for their investment in the futures of our children!

USEC GOLF TOURNAMENT BENEFITTING HEARTS & HOMES FOR YOUTH
June 15, 2007 couldn’t have been a better day for a golf tournament. On this slightly overcast (no annoying glare) and unseasonably cool (no sweat or sunburn) Friday morning, golfers lined up for an 8:00am shotgun start at the USEC Golf Tournament. As starting holes were assigned, snazzy red golf carts took off for the rolling hills of Little Bennett Golf Course. The morning was serene and deer could be seen gamboling across the greens. Suddenly, a voice cried out, “FORE!” (Or was that “FOUR” …as in 4 over par???) Soon other voices joined in and laughter could be heard throughout the course. A voice somewhere around the ninth hole was heard to say, “The worst day on the golf course is better than the best day at work.” (Of course, that guy didn’t work at Hearts & Homes!!). Back in the Clubhouse, everyone enjoyed a summery lunch and awards were given. The finale of the day was the presentation of $2,000 to the children of HHY, a gift made possible by USEC, who donated each staff member's entry fee to HHY. We offer each of them our heartfelt thanks for their generosity.

PRINCESS PARTY
Hasn’t every female, at one time or another, dreamed of being “Princess for a Day”? Well, the young ladies of HHY got that chance when Susan Davis, wife of devoted Board Member Larry Davis, decided to fulfill that dream. Susan approached friends, relatives and local businesses with her idea of a Princess Party. Susan and Larry’s son Mitchell, a senior at Wootton High School and a staunch supporter of HHY, asked his friends to donate items as well. Soon, donations of dresses, gowns, jewelry, shoes, handbags and accessories came flooding in.

The Princess Party was held on June 14th at the main offices of HHY. The young ladies enjoyed a light buffet before the evening of fashion fun got into full swing. Susan brought a bevy of people with her to make the event spectacular. Julie and Erin Futrovksy not only donated items for the event, but they were personal shoppers extraordinaire- helping the girls find just the right dress and accessories. LJ Bushwick also donated items and was on hand to style hair. Tanya Heyison, a professional makeup artist, helped bring out each girl’s natural beauty, and all of the young ladies sat for a photo shoot with professional photographer Suzanne Glassman.

The event was a huge success. “It was so much fun,” said Susan.  “I am so glad they all enjoyed the program because we could not stop talking about it! The girls warmed all of our hearts. I am so glad it was a success and we will definitely make it a yearly event.”
