Blair High School Sophomores in the highly competitive Communications Arts Program chose to benefit Hearts & Homes for Youth as part of its “Change Project” this year. The group collected 136 stuffed animals and pajamas to help make our Hearts & Homes Youth a little more comfortable and to help people in the community. “We are really happy to be helping the kids,” says Ann Marie Huisentruit, who, with the help of her teammates, collected, boxed, wrapped and brought the gifts to our Hearts & Homes headquarters. Why did the group choose Hearts & Homes for Youth? “We wanted to work with children in the area,” said Leon Mait, who spearheaded this campaign.

Benefiting Hearts & Homes for Youth
A message from Bruce Allen, Doris Buffett and Mark Moseley:
Dear Friends, Colleagues, Golf Enthusiasts and Redskins Fans:
As Honorary Chairman I am pleased, along with Mark Moseley and Rex Smith, to invite you to join us at the 31st Annual NFL Alumni Golf Classic (Redskins Chapter), a tournament to support children in the community.
This year, we are proud to announce the Children of Hearts & Homes for Youth as the beneficiaries of this great event. You know these kids. Although they may have suffered lives unimaginable to us, they are precious. Should you look into their eyes, their smiles, you would see your own child, your grandchild, your neighbor, with the same spirit, hopes and dreams yet to be fulfilled. Tonight, tomorrow and the coming tomorrows, 136 children are at ‘home’, thousands before them, thousands yet to come; their stories untold of miraculous journeys to success.
Join us as a major sponsor, or sponsor a team, for the Golf Classic. Invite your friends, colleagues and associates to participate in this great occasion as well, as we invest in the most valuable ‘commodity’- the ‘futures’ of children, with an ROI beyond any other…greater than Wall Street on its best day.
The day-long event will be held May 26, 2010 on the Norman Course at the Lansdowne Resort. The Classic is a top notch outing featuring a host of Hall of Fame Redskins and Alumni: Art Monk, Charley Taylor, Sam Huff, Darrell Green, Bobby Mitchell, Mike Bragg, Brian Mitchell, Brig Owens, Pat Fischer, Chris Hanburger, Roy Jefferson, Larry Brown, Ron McDole, Joe Jacoby and many others. Each team who participates will have a Redskin Alumni as part of their foursome.
The winning team will advance to the “Super Bowl of Golf” with the winners of the other NFL Alumni tournaments in the spring of 2011. There are several sponsorship opportunities available, in addition to sponsored teams, which will receive significant recognition in the program, on course signage and banners and at the evening awards dinner hosted by TV Anchor Leon Harris. We look forward to your participation. Come, enjoy a great day of golf, meet notable Redskins alumni, have photo ops, get autographs and network with a host of elected, community and business leaders. Ultimately, your involvement will benefit young people in the care of Hearts & Homes for Youth, and brighten the futures of some very deserving kids. (Visit www.heartsandhomes.org) To be a sponsor or register a team, contact Mark Moseley’s assistant, Kathy Corsetty, at 202-579-5500.
Thank you from each of us and from the children of Hearts & Homes,
Bruce Allen, Redskins General Manager
Mark Moseley, President, Redskins Alumni
Rex Smith, President/CEO, Hearts & Homes for Youth
Our Amazing Holiday Wishmakers
Thursday, January 22nd, 2009Each year Hearts & Homes faces the daunting task of providing good holiday memories for 135 children from newborns to older adolescents. For 44 seasons of winter holidays individuals, churches, organizations, and businesses have been there to help. This year, as the children wrote their Wishlists we were more anxious then usual, as the bad economic times have touched us all. Amazingly, our partners came through once again. Every child at HHY received gifts, a party or a special outing and some happy memories just like regular kids. Even more importantly they realized that there are thoughtful and caring people in the community, something that was new for a number of our young people.
A special thanks to our Holiday Wishmakers, who came forward to fulfill the wishes of these very deserving children. Some were experienced Wishmakers and some were brand new.. You were all wonderful. I know how hard it was to interpret some of those wishes. And I know those unedited lists were pretty extravagant. Just like the lists we made as children. Thank you for your patience, your generosity, your concern, and your understanding. We absolutely could not have done this without you.
ezStorage Becomes a New Corporate Sponsor
Monday, September 8th, 2008Hearts & Homes for Youth (HHY) is happy to announce ezStorage as a new Corporate Sponsor. ezStorage will be donating storage units at their new Takoma Park, MD location to be used for storing donated furniture and other items for future use in HHY’s group homes and shelters located throughout the state.
“We thank ezStorage and Todd Managaro, President of ezStorage Corporation, for their generous donation and for their dedication to helping in their own way,” noted Rex Smith, President & CEO of Hearts & Homes for Youth. “Truthfully, thank you is simply not enough for ezStorage’s investment in the lives of the 130 troubled children we serve every day, from tots to teens.”
ezStorage joins a list of well-respected community partners such as Social and Scientific Systems, Aronson Foundation and Kiwanis, who share Hearts & Homes’ mission of investing in the futures of Maryland’s most deserving youth.
