Thank you to our Holiday Gift Drive supporters!

All of us at Hearts & Homes for Youth are incredibly grateful to our supporters in the community who have gotten involved in the Holiday Gift Drive, adopting wish lists and coordinating with friends to give! The gifts are incredibly considerate, greatly appreciated, and most importantly, brighten the holidays for the kids in our care by reminding them that they are each cared for.

UMD Delta Sigma Theta Chapter gets involved!

imgp7887The University of Maryland College Park Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. recently hosted a dinner for the girls in the care of Hearts & Homes for Youth at John C Tracey Group Home.

Four members of the sorority came to the home and cooked stuffed peppers and tacos, and enjoyed dinner with the girls.

Hearts & Homes for Youth is grateful to the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. chapter for spending their time with our girls. They are positive role models in the community.

In early December, the sorority is planning an outing with our girls to a local skating rink, which is sure to be a hit, especially since two of their members are ice skating teachers!

We are also grateful to the sorority for adopting some of our youth’s holiday wish lists and look forward to building an ongoing relationship with chapter!

Hearts & Homes for Youth and MOD Pizza join together to Spread MODness in Celebration of MOD’s Eighth Birthday

MOD to donate $1 for every pizza sold to provide hope for at-risk youth and families

HOUSTON (November 14, 2016) – MOD Pizza, known for its focus on making a positive impact in their communities, is teaming up with Hearts & Homes for Youth to launch its annual Spreading MODness campaign in Columbia, MD.  The MOD Squad will be donating $1.00 for every pizza sold to Hearts & Homes for Youth from November 22 through 27, 2016.

MOD Pizza, 10000 Town Center Ave, Columbia, MD 21044

Hearts & Homes for Youth joins over 175 non-profits across the U.S. that will be the beneficiaries of Spreading MODness 2016 – a week at MOD which is focused on supporting at-risk youth and families across the U.S. and the United Kingdom.

“We are thrilled to be a part of Spreading MODness again this year! Last year, the donation went toward general operating expenses, which includes necessities, academic support, recreational experiences, and so much more to support the growth, development, and healing of the youth in our care. Many of our kids have gone without unconditional support, reassurance, and sometimes the basic necessities,” said Chloe Perez, President & CEO. “The holidays are a HARD time of year for the kiddos at Hearts & Homes, but it’s also a special time of year! We wrap as much LOVE and HOPE around them as possible. Thank you to MOD Pizza for supporting local charities!”

Added Ally Svenson, co-founder of MOD Pizza, “Our birthday is always a special week – it is a time when we spotlight the idea that ‘simply doing the right thing’ – taking care of one another and our communities – can have a lasting impact.  Moments of generosity and gratitude happen daily in our stores, and we want to pay that forward to our communities. We are proud to call these inspiring charities our partners and to help draw attention to the important work they do every day.”

This year celebrates the fourth year of Spreading MODness, and through its celebration of “Gratitude with Attitude”, each of MOD’s 182 stores will be supporting their local charity, with a goal to donate over $250,000 in 18 states and the UK. A pioneer of the fast casual pizza segment, MOD Pizza was founded in Seattle in 2008 by entrepreneurs Scott and Ally Svenson. MOD’s individual artisan-style pizzas and salads are made on demand, letting customers choose whatever they like from over 30 toppings, all for one set price. At the core of MOD is a purpose-led culture that’s committed to being a force for good in the community – creating not only a cool place to eat, but an inspired place to work. MOD was recently ranked as America’s fastest growing chain restaurant by Technomic; earned a spot on the Inc. 500 list as one of American’s fastest-growing private companies in 2016, and the Inc. 5000 in 2015; and was recognized by Fortune as one of the 20 best workplaces in retail for its progressive hiring practices and career-growth opportunities. MOD has locations across 18 states and the U.K. To learn more, visit

Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Montgomery Chapter shows support!

20161112_142749On Saturday three social workers from Hearts & Homes for Youth Damamli/TFC programs met with kids involved in the Montgomery County Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and spoke with them about the different types of homelessness and the different people affected by homelessness.

Following the discussion, the youth broke into groups and developed short skits to demonstrate particular problems faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. They reflected on the feelings and struggles facing these individuals on a daily basis, and brainstormed ways to demonstrate compassion for people in such situations.

The youth donated cookies they had decorated along with over 500 diapers, over 1000 wipes, over 30 pairs of socks, and over 35 under garments for youth in Hearts & Homes for Youth’s Damamli/TFC program.  The donations are greatly appreciated and will benefit many young mothers and foster youth in our care!

Gift card collection drive!

09ljgfbk1xHearts & Homes for Youth is launching a gift card collection drive! Our goal is, with your help, to amass 500 gift cards in the amounts of $20, $50, and $100 to places such as Target, Giant, and Walmart where there is a wide selection. We also accept Visa gift cards.

Many of the youth in our care are foster youth and have, for much of their lives, received donations. While they are grateful for the items, they also love the opportunity to choose for themselves, something they want or need. The purpose in collecting gift cards is to give the youth in our care the opportunity to pick something for themselves, that they want or need.

We would be grateful for support from individuals, groups, organizations, churches, and businesses! If you would like to get involved, please contact Caitlin Ward at

Thank you Jones Lang LaSalle for the art supplies!

Thank you Jones Lang LaSalle for donating art supplies this morning for the youth in our programs!

Art therapy is a critical tool that provides the youth with critical insight into emotions, thoughts, and feelings. Creating art provides an opportunity to be creative, learn more about yourself, develop confidence and self-worth, and feel empowered! Art is also a relaxing and stress relieving activity! #empoweryouth #brighterfutures
